The cold, dark Winter is when humans and creatures alike stock up and rest, the trees huddle for warmth, and seeds prepare for the sun. Spring is when we see a phase of evolution within Mother Nature’s annual cycle. It is a time for beginnings and new chapters for every human, animal, and seed.

The Spring Equinox will bring warmth to the Midwest on March 20th, 2023. While the cold may linger, there is lots of activity under our noses, under the ground. Like little rockets, seeds are gestating and getting ready to burst through the soil. They apply what they learned from last year’s season and evolve into a new version of themselves for this one. What can we, as human beings, learn from this?

Like the growth cycle mentioned in January’s blog, nature’s changes can be applied to our everyday lives. The Winter blues are fading and Spring physically and emotionally brings a sense of hope and growth for the future. Though this concept applies to each of us, we all evolve within our own timing though many feel this uplifting energy in the Springtime. This inspired our Tarot Reader, Abigail Cline, to create a Pick-A-Pile for this month’s blog! Tarot and oracle cards can be powerful tools for personal growth and empowerment.

The Seed and Sickle Oracle Deck beautifully demonstrates the flowers that grow throughout the seasons and the various ways they survive and interact with surrounding nature. As we rub our hands together in preparation for the thaw, let’s consider some spring flowers with messages for our coming season.

Backs of three oracle cards

Take a deep breath, look at this photo of three cards, and select which crystal or card draws you in. Don’t think too hard. Trust your initial choice.

Read the message for which card (or cards) you picked. Feel free to respond to us and let us know if it resonated!

PILE ONE: Chickweed

Chickweed Card Chickweed has a mixed reputation. They can be invasive and take over a crop, but they also are bountiful, grow well in the cold, and have healing anti-inflammatory and strong digestive properties (Oladeji). Used in Chinese medicine, though it now grows all over the world, chickweed carries symbolism around good omens and fortune. (Fun that this card came up near St. Patrick’s Day!) If you picked this card, don’t be surprised if results sprout early. They may even start showing before you feel ready. Keep your eyes peeled and be ready to harvest with intention.

PILE TWO: Jasmine

Jasmine is well-known for its pleasant fragrance. This attractive flower symbolizes trusting one’s judgments over doubts. You’ve taken some big actions and steps on your journey but may feel as though you’re floundering a bit or not thrilled with your current progress. Thinking back to what-could-have-happened…beating yourself up for steps taken too late or not at all…there’s no wrong way. Jasmine grows where it’s supposed to and so will you. Even when it doesn’t feel that way.

PILE THREE: Magnolia

Magnolia Card

Aging as far back as the Cretaceous Period (95 million years ago!), magnolias have had lots of time to evolve their cross-pollinating functions and external protection while beetles feed on the pollen (Evich). This flower represents persistence, preparation, and planning. The flowers of magnolias bloom long before the leaves do. This is an advantage over other plants by participating in the pollination process sooner. It teaches the lesson that thoughtful preparation of the previous season allows them to be the first blooming participants of the season. Get your ducks in a row so when an opportunity arrives, you are ready!

One or all of these cards may speak to you. Take in their messages and find a way to incorporate them into your week.
